High-Bandwidth Underwater Transceivers


Ambalux possesses unique technology for meeting customer requirements:

Scaled Array Transmitter for high-power, compact, low-cost underwater FSO systems. This technology enables Ambalux to build optical transmitters at power levels ranging from 10 mW to 100 W at a fraction of the cost and weight of conventional transmitters. With bandwidths from 1Mbps to greater than 100Mbps, this technology is readily applied for high-bandwidth communications to/from Autonomous Undersea Vehicles (AUVs).

Time-Coded Receiver for extended-range communication at high bit rates. Innovative processing provides more than 10dB in receiver signal-to-noise ratio compared to conventional receivers.

Coherent Transceiver for data transmission under background-limited conditions. The extremely narrow receiver bandwidth practically eliminates limitations due to solar background in underwater communications.

Passively Cooled, Diode-Pumped, Single-Frequency Transmitter for sensor applications and coherent communications. Careful design of this transmitter removes most of the cooling power-consumption attendant in solid-state lasers, even with diode pumping, opening a wide range of system-level applications.

Multipath Suppression Technology™ (MUST), with particular applications for high-bandwidth transmission in turbid environments, such as heavy fog and underwater applications. MUST provides increased capability for high-bandwidth communications in environments where scattering or multi-path propagation otherwise limit data bandwidth. MUST uses temporal and spectral encoding to suppress Inter-Symbol Interference (ISI) and assure low Bit Error Rate (BER) link performance under challenging optical conditions.
